Topics of Interest

Legal Engineering

Privacy is intimately related with work culture and the best way to build privacy preserving technology is to grow interdisciplinary research and development teams, with both software and legal engineers. Sophie’s team at Immuta is at the forefront of this cultural shift and has won recognition from Fast Company for its innovation in this space.

Data Sharing and Data Sovereignty

There are both practical and ethical arguments for data sharing: diversifying data access, enabling organizations to be full players in the data economy, accelerating research and innovation, and improving the quality of data products. However, data sharing generates a variety of risks for both organizations and individuals. Sophie is a strong advocate for privacy-preserving data sharing practices and independent data stewardship through a variety of initiatives.

PETs

The list of PETs has grown over the years and now includes a wide range of techniques, including tokenization, k-anonymization, global and local differential privacy, federated learning, homomorphic encryption, secure multiparty computation, and trusted execution environments. Despite all this, PETS remain resource intensive and only used by a few organizations. Sophie and the Immuta team are democratizing the use of these PETs while injecting accountability into the process.
