Topics of Interest

Data Governance

Chris believes data governance is like eating vegetables: you know you should do it, but really don't want to. He learned early in his career how an effective data governance program delivers results with more efficient data engineers and business analysts delivering higher quality analytics. Good data governance stops the wasted cycles of finding and understanding data assets, correcting poor data quality, and continually dealing with the risks of poor security and compliance. This leads to better decision-making, which can enhance government efficiency or provide an advantage on the battlefield.

Ethical Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence

Government and commercial organizations are using vast amounts of data to build machine learning models that perform predictive analytics in order to make quicker and more informed decisions, better serve customers, or gain a competitive edge. As these models become more prevalent, it’s critical that they are built using ethical standards, robust data sets, and appropriate procedures and safeguards to avoid biases that would negatively impact disadvantaged populations or create negative outcomes.
